Program Description:
The residency in Cardiovascular Medicine at Largo Medical Center is designed
to provide the learner with high quality instruction and experience in all aspects of general and selected specialty cardiovascular
areas. The program will be 36 months in duration. Residents may be accepted into the program only after successfully
completing three years of general Internal Medicine training, to be accomplished by three years of Internal Medicine Residency,
which may include a Specialty Track Internal Medicine internship. The Base Training Institution will be Largo Medical Center
and Sun Coast Hospital of Largo, Florida. Continuity outpatient clinic training will be provided at the base teaching site
as well as at affiliate sites (in the ambulatory care facilities of the trainers).
Application Procedures:
Resident candidates will
complete the application provided by the Department of Medical Education at Largo Medical Center. Original or notarized
copies of the internship certificate and the Osteopathic Medical School transcript must be submitted with the application
and other required documentation. In addition, three letters of recommendation, including one from the Program Director
of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, must be provided. A minimum of three evaluations from internal medicine
attendings, for rotations spent on their services, also must be provided.
Qualified applicants will
be asked to interview on site at Sun Coast Hospital. The Program Director of Cardiology, the Associate Program Director,
the Director of Medical Education, members of the Medical Education Committee
and other designated trainers will conduct these interview sessions.
Upon favorable consideration
by the Program Director, the candidate’s application will be presented
to the Medical Education Committee for approval. Upon favorable action of the committee, the candidate will be notified
in writing of the acceptance. All candidates who submitted a completed application and were not selected will be notified
in writing as soon as possible.
