Dr. Darren Sommer graduated from
NSU with a DO and MPH degree. During his IM residency he completed the AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor
program and served on the SCH Code committee. He has authored several medical abstracts and articles that were published
in peer review journals. His interest in medical written was noticed by the ACOI and he was asked to serve as the national
resident research representative.
Dr. Sommer’s medical training
coincided with his military service. He has served with the Florida Army National Guard as the Flight Surgeon for the
Blackhawk Unit and Battalion Surgeon for the C-Med 53rd Support Battalion in St. Petersburg. He trained combat medics into EMTs and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for the
training protocols he initiated.
Dr Sommer’s military service will continue after graduation. First there’s paratrooper training and jump school at Fort Benning then deployment with the 82nd
Airborne Division as a Battalion Surgeon.
