Dr. Darren Sommer graduated from NSU with a DO and MPH degree.  During his IM residency he completed the AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support  instructor program and served on the SCH Code committee.  He has authored several medical abstracts and articles that were published in peer review journals.  His interest in medical written was noticed by the ACOI and he was asked to serve as the national resident research representative.

Dr. Sommer’s medical training coincided with his military service.  He has served with the Florida Army National Guard as the Flight Surgeon for the Blackhawk Unit and Battalion Surgeon for the C-Med 53rd Support Battalion in St. Petersburg.  He trained combat medics into EMTs and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for the training protocols he initiated.

Dr Sommer’s military service will continue after graduation.  First there’s paratrooper training and jump school at Fort Benning then deployment with the 82nd Airborne Division as a Battalion Surgeon.
